- FOOD CHARTER -
At Hobbs House, we are focused, well trained, and passionate about the food we sell – we love making, baking and sharing great food.
We cultivate the best of our rich heritage, and by embracing modern thinking and technology we maintain our edge. As a company, our deep rooted values are captured in this Food Charter, like a sturdy plant in good soil.
Enjoy this age old ditty that illustrates our hungry values, shaping all that we are, and driving all that we do:

Sourcing the best ingredients -
We love to shop, always rooting around for the very best ingredients and hunting for a fair deal.
We’ve learnt where to look, and if it’s locally sourced, in season, the best quality, and from a trusted producer or supplier, then we can be sure you are getting the real deal.
And you’ll not pay a penny more than you need to. We’ve been doing this since 1920; we may be long in the tusk, but we always bring home the bacon.

Training the next generation -
Don’t feel sorry for the stay-at-home pig. Hobbs House isn’t just a beautiful house on Chipping Sodbury High Street, it’s a full-of-life, welcoming, family home that helps us feed our appetite for entertaining.
We love to invite people in for a tour of the bakery, or to show off our spectacular wood-fired oven.
We get immense pleasure from sharing what we know and do, whether it be for a stint of inspiring work-experience, or a career changing internship, or (going the whole hog) an apprenticeship in craft baking.
For a weaner-sized taster, come on one of our bread making courses: everyone leaves with an extra curl in the tail.
Screwed to the front of Hobbs House, you’ll see our Investors in People plaque, a badge worn with honour, and testimony to our commitment to training the future generations in our great and ancient craft.
Our foundations go deep, with over 90 years at the oven door, and we’ve built our home not with straw or sticks, but with bricks.

We’ve got a real beef -
Okay, here comes the squealer: we’ve got beef, and I’ll tell you why. We really dislike mass produced ‘bread’, cheap food, that comes at such a cost, it makes people sick and fat.
And that’s just for starters. We’re squealing and squealing and we want everyone to hear, there IS a better way.
What we love is true ARTISAN bread, REAL bread, PROPER FOOD.
We never rush the process of running our business: when it comes to training or proving dough we say, give it time, because it’ll always be better.
Better for you, better for our community and ultimately better for the whole earth.
We are overcoming the phoney, plastic wrapped, pappy bread that proliferates.
There’s a real bread and food renaissance a-hoof and its trotting forward with people like you choosing to eat real bread.
Help us give bad food the roasting it deserves.

Sharing every crumb -
Hobbs House has to be sustainable and responsible in everything we do, especially with food waste, which is why we share our surplus with those who don’t have enough, giving what we can to FareShare, and encouraging each other to give to the FoodBank.
By enjoying food from Hobbs House, you’re helping us to muck in and be a force for good in a world that needs it.

And this little piggy went wee wee wee wee, all the way home - pigs in muck
Picture a helter skelter. We climb to the top very early in the morning, then try to make every moment of the day enjoyable and empowering (pigs’ll fly!).
By making work at Hobbs House as much fun as is possible
in a safe, clean environment.
Working every day in high spirits and to an exacting standard transposes itself directly into what we have to offer.
By making the whole experience as thrilling as possible, we find it easy to share the exhilaration with anyone who’ll let us.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride, and we’ve got you squealing again, again.
It’s troughing good reward for our hard work.
Together we can be as content as pigs in muck.
