Weber Smoke House Barbecue

  • Smoke House is Grill Academy’s latest course developed to cover a wide array of smoking techniques on all our barbecues: not only Charcoal but also Gas, Electric and on Wood Pellets on Weber’s SmokeFire.

    From beginners wanting to discover the basics of smoking to advanced grillers wanting to perfect curing or use coffee grains to smoked food, it is suitable for all keen grillers. For those who want to discover new flavours, and for all who simply are willing to enjoy the best of barbecued food.

    A unique hands-on experience, this new course teaches you the Weber Way of barbecuing, demonstrates the full array of smoking techniques, as well as covering key skills such as lighting and temperature control. Learn how to perfect beef ribs, reverse-sear steaks, cure salmon in Gin and beetroot, grill and smoke seasonal vegetables or use coffee beans to flavour boost your pudding.

    Want to get the most from your barbecue and cook more than the standard barbecue fare of burgers and sausages? The Smoke House course explores how to use Weber's renowned ""lid-on"" barbecue technique to grill, roast, bake and of course smoke! During the 4 hours, you and your classmates will prepare a variety of different dishes under the guidance of an expert chef.

    • Starters: Gin and beetroot cured smoked salmon
    • Starters: Smoke House seasonal vegetables
    • Snack: Chilli rubbed ribeye steak with lime and coriander butter
    • Main: SmokeFire beef ribs with homemade Rub and BBQ sauce
    • Main: Ember grilled leeks with pink pepper butter
    • Main: Coal baked potatoes with smoked cheese and mustard sauce
    • Dessert: Coffee smoked orange brownies with crème fraiche

    Our School is located in the heart of Chipping Sodbury above the original Hobbs House Bakery and Butchery on the High Street.

    School parking

    There is free parking on the opposite side of the road from the Hobbs House Cookery School, places are limited or pay on the School side (max 2hrs stay).Alternatively there is a free 24hr Car park round the back of the school situated on Barnhill Road via Wickwar Road. Follow signs towards Waitrose and the car park can be found on the left hand side. The high street is a 2 minute walk through the link road.

    Transport and taxis

    The nearest train stations to Hobbs House School are Yate which is 1.7 miles and Bristol Parkway which is 6.6 miles. Chipping Sodbury Taxis are always at hand, 07891 190984.

    Access requirements

    Our School classrooms are on the first and second floor – accessed by stairs only. If mobility is likely to be a problem, please let us know. We will also do our best to accommodate any physical impairments or learning difficulties – please contact us to discuss.


    Should you be travelling from afar, the local area has a great selection of beautiful hotels and guest houses to rest your weary head. We would recommend the Moda House located on the High Street in Chipping Sodbury. A little further afield, Calcot Manor is a spa hotel located about 15 minutes from the school or alternatively stay with Trevor and Polly Herbert in a secluded cottage, on the family farm, on the outskirts of the Badminton estate.
