  • Fastest loaf from the field

    Back in 1980, my father and grandfather tried to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest ever loaf from field to table: an hour and a half; it was a great publicity stunt. Today of course, we’d be trying to do the slowest! There’s a film clip of it, some footage taken from a helicopter, and it’s great seeing my dad at my age baking in a tie, wearing Sunday best because he was going to be on the telly. He took ten precious seconds to add black treacle. I asked him why and he said “So it tastes great”. I think that sums up a lot about how we bake. Watch the video here
