We are really happy and proud to announce that we are the first British bakery to become a certified B Corporation, a global movement driving change in society through ethical and sustainable business.
We have joined the likes of over 3000 other companies across the globe, including The Body Shop, Ben and Jerrys and Pukka Herbs. We are incredibly excited to join this global community sharing our vision of using businesses as a force for good. To become a certified B Corp, we needed to pass rigorous testing to prove we meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
“As a traditional family business looking to the future, we saw that the B Corp accreditation mirrored our own values. Being a part of this community will support and challenge us to do business better in the years to come. We understand how our purpose and responsibility to support workers, communities and the environment is just as important as the quality products and service that we strive to deliver daily to our customers”
- George Herbert, Managing Director
We are a true family business with five generations of bakery experience, our very first loaf of bread being baked in 1920. Although a lot has changed over the last 100 years, our commitment to being the very best for our people, communities and the environment has not. 10 decades later and we are still a family business, handmaking exceptional bread, cakes and pastries everyday using our classic recipes.
We’ve always tried to do the right thing and ensure our bread achieves positive things, from supporting several local initiatives that fight hunger by repurposing our bread to local communities, supporting a bakery in Tanzinia with a ‘buy one give one’ initiative, to creating a culture of sharing and family values where we love to teach others how to make real bread, handmade bread for everyone is our mantra. We strive for the business to be a great place to work where staff feel part of the family and we are locally minded; our ingredients are sustainable and come from local businesses and our packaging is as environmentally friendly possible, joining B Corp felt like a natural step for us.
For future generations to come, we will continue to use our business to be the change in the world we want to see.
