    Nailsworth's Breadlehem Christmas Window

We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the attention our Hobbs House Bakery’s Nailsworth shop’s Christmas window has gained over the last couple of weeks. This year the Nailsworth team came together to create a wonderful nativity scene out of bread.

The window was created by Amanda, who has been in the team for nearly twenty years, and in that time has created lots of magical windows made from bread. This year they chose our Organic Wild White Sourdough, a customer favourite and a loaf that has been celebrated this year with grain grown just ten miles from their bakery. Using the sourdoughs to create the key nativity characters of, Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, and the kings, all around a baguette Baby Jesus resting on a rye loaf. They even have a star made by our wonderful baker Baz, hanging proudly above the nativity scene.

Amanda Jane, who made the window, says

“Of course a nativity is perfect as it's the Christmas story, the bread of life made from bread! It takes 2 to 3 days to dry the bread enough to be able to cut it and varnish it.”

    Hilary, our shop manager, says

“I had the idea and planned it then Amanda executed the idea. Baz did a great job on the Christmas star, which we really appreciated. We wanted something traditional and simple, and I think we got it right!”

It’s been great to see our community enjoy the window as much as the team has enjoyed creating it. Spreading the festive cheer to everyone who goes past the shop and sees ‘Breadlehem’. We’re not sure how we’ll top it next year!
