It’s our sourdough’s 59th birthday

As it enters into its sixtieth year we thought we must mark the occasion.

Over the last 12 years of teaching we’ve shared well over 1000 jars of sourdough with enthusiastic bakers all over the country. Many jars of sourdough culture have even gone around the world. Some of these will sadly have died, RIP. Many have been shared, and hundreds of you have shared the love and the loaves with us all. We wish to mark the occasion with a celebration, a challenge, a competition to find the King or Queen of the Sourdough, (wherever your sourdough culture is from).

Over the next eight weeks we will be inviting you to send us a picture of your best sourdough loaf.  Each week we will declare a Super Sourdough Champion, and the winner will inherit a jar of our 59 year old sourdough starter. At the end of the eight weeks all you Sourdough Champions will be invited for a day of sourdough baking, sharing recipes, stories and tips at our bakery school in Chipping Sodbury with Tom and Trevor Herbert and one of you will be declared the first ever King or Queen of the Sourdough.

All you knead to do is send us a picture of your finest sourdough both whole and cut. Share these via instagram, twitter or facebook using the hashtag #KingOfTheSourdough

Our first winner will be announced on Monday 21st July, get baking.
