Our purpose is to nourish people and communities for generations to come.
We do this by creating life-changing opportunities through meaningful work, skills development, and belonging, helping people realise their potential while baking exceptional products that bring communities together.
At Hobbs House Bakery, we believe that opportunity should be available to everyone. We are committed to building an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds feel welcome, respected, valued, and able to thrive. We recognise that diversity strengthens our business.
To support this commitment, we will:
The growth of our apprenticeship programme has been fantastic. We're particularly proud of the relationships we've built with local schools, offering work experience placements with the aim of welcoming school leavers into apprenticeships here at Hobbs House Bakery.
Since July 2022, 15 employees have successfully completed their apprenticeship programmes across a mix of Baker Level 2 and Food & Drink Process qualifications. A further 12 colleagues are currently enrolled on apprenticeship programmes, covering areas such as Property Maintenance and the much-anticipated Baker Level 3 qualification.
The introduction of Baker Level 3 marks an exciting milestone for our bakery, giving experienced bakers the opportunity to deepen their technical expertise, refine their Artisan skills and gain a higher level, industry recognised qualification.
Our apprenticeship programme has become so popular that we now have a waiting list, with five more team members starting this summer, alongside two school leavers joining us on their apprenticeship journey. This means that over 17% of our workforce has either completed, is currently undertaking, or is about to start an apprenticeship programme.
We believe every person at Hobbs House Bakery deserves the support and skills they need to do their job well and build a long-term career with us. Alongside our apprenticeship programmes, our inhouse English tutor work with colleagues to build confidence in reading and writing. For some team members, that support has extended to achieving Maths and English qualifications, which have made a real difference to their lives.
Every team member is assigned to our training programme, and we maintain clear training portfolios for all employees. Training is monitored across departments and teams through a comprehensive training matrix, helping us ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and current legislation. This includes training in Health & Safety, Food Safety, UK Equality, ESG fundamentals, and many other key areas. All training is reviewed and refreshed every three years to ensure it remains up to date and relevant. We also make sure our team can study within working hours, so learning and working go hand in hand without adding pressure outside the working day.
