Human rights policy

Purpose 

At Hobbs House Bakery, we are committed to respecting and promoting human rights throughout our business and supply chain. 

As a family business and Certified B Corp, our purpose is to nourish people and communities for generations to come. We believe that everyone connected to our business should be treated with dignity, fairness and respect. 

This policy applies to all employees, workers, suppliers, contractors and business partners. 

Our Commitment

We commit to: 

• Respect internationally recognised human rights. 
• Avoid causing, contributing to, or being directly linked to adverse human rights impacts through our activities or business relationships. 
• Identify, assess and address potential human rights risks within our operations and supply chain. 
• Take appropriate action where concerns are identified. 
• Provide mechanisms for concerns to be raised and investigated. 
• Continuously review and improve our approach to human rights.

• The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. 
• The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 
• The International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

How We Monitor Human Rights Risks

Our People 

We manage human rights risks within our workforce through: 

• Our Recruitment Policy and JEDI commitments. 
• Employee Handbook. 
• Regular training and development. 
• Health, safety and wellbeing programmes. 
• Grievance procedures and whistleblowing processes. 
• Ongoing dialogue through one-to-ones, surveys and team forums. 

Our Suppliers 

We manage human rights risks within our supply chain through: 

• Supplier approval and onboarding processes. 
• Supplier questionnaires and surveys. 
• Review of supplier policies and practices where appropriate. 
• Ongoing supplier relationships and engagement. 

Ingredient and Packaging Sourcing 

We review the origin of ingredients and packaging materials to understand potential human rights risks associated with source countries and supply chains. 

This includes: 

• Monitoring country of origin information for ingredients and packaging. 
• Reviewing our Ingredient Swap Register when sourcing changes occur. 
• Assessing new ingredients, packaging materials, suppliers or source countries before approval. 
• Working with suppliers to understand sourcing practices and improve transparency. 

Particular attention is given to ingredients or materials sourced from regions where there may be increased risks relating to labour rights, working conditions or environmental impacts. 

Anyone connected with Hobbs House Bakery who has concerns regarding human rights is encouraged to raise them through management, the People Team, or our grievance and whistleblowing procedures. 

Where we identify that we have caused or contributed to a negative human rights impact, we will investigate the issue, take appropriate corrective action and seek to prevent recurrence. 

Where concerns arise within our supply chain, we will work with suppliers to understand and address issues and may reconsider supplier relationships where necessary. 

Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as our business, supply chain and understanding of human rights risks evolve. 

This policy is reviewed annually or following significant changes to legislation or business operations.
