2014 SODBURY JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL PROGRAMME
‘60s Legends Head Sodbury Music Fest
Two icons of the 1960s UK music scene head four days of exciting music at the annual Sodbury Jazz & Blues Festival at the beginning of June.
Chris Farlowe and Zoot Money, who came to prominence as regular performers at London’s mecca for fans of jazz and R&B, the Flamingo Club, both share the bill at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall on Saturday 7th June for an evening of blues.
On the previous evening the headliners will be New Orleans Update, acknowledged specialists in recreating the sound of traditional New Orleans Jazz. Singing with the band is new discovery Sinead McCabe who interprets the blues songs from that era that were beloved and made famous by the late Ottilie Patterson.
Opening the four days of amazing music will be UK blues legend Eddie Martin who will be playing at the George Hotel with his trio. Eddie will be playing a bonus set that evening in order to feature tracks from his brand new album ‘Blues Took Me By The Hand’.
Up Close and Personal
The Festival, this year in association with local supermarket Waitrose, promises a feast of live music often presented in intimate surroundings.
“We know that there’s nothing quite like seeing a great musician or singer performing right in front of you in a small setting” explained co organiser Stuart Hobday, “and this year we’ve been able to bring the music as close as possible”.
Over the weekend, the programme offers music to accompany breakfast at Hampton’s delicatessen, mid morning coffee at Coffee#1, through the afternoon at both The Bell and The Squire and in the evening at The Beaufort Hunt and The Horseshoe.
New this year will be a lunch on Saturday prepared at their bakery by Tom and Henry Herbert – stars of the TV series ‘The Fabulous Baker Brothers’ – live music through that afternoon at Chipping Sodbury Waitrose store and, on Sunday, a Jazz Mass at St John The Baptist Church.
In addition, on Saturday and Sunday, two Waitrose pedicabs will be on hand to transport visitors (for free) around the various venues through the morning and afternoon, and will offer an information point in the High Street.
