This week, we hosted the Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie, and his Deputy Lieutenants to formally present us with our King’s Award for Sustainable Development. A moment to acknowledge, celebrate, and reflect on all we do at Hobbs to ensure we are baking for future generations.
During the visit, we welcomed them into our bakery in Chipping Sodbury, where they met members of our team, heard about our sustainability journey, toured the bakery... and enjoyed a pastry or two!
This award means a great deal to our team. It gives us confidence that we’re on the right path in our journey to bake in a more sustainable way. But we know this is just the beginning. We have clear goals and ambitions for how we can continue moving forward.

George Herbert, our Managing Director, says:
“It's an honour to be presented with our King’s Award for Sustainable Development and to recognise all the hard work we've done at Hobbs over the last few years to bake in a more sustainable way. From working with local farmers to source our flour from healthier soils, to installing solar panels on our bakery to help charge our electric vans, and reducing food waste by giving local charities any surplus bread - it's been a true team effort.”
Earlier this summer, George had the pleasure of heading to Windsor Castle on behalf of everyone at Hobbs House Bakery to celebrate our King’s Award. During his conversation with His Majesty The King, they spoke about our Organic 47-Mile Loaf - made from wheat grown locally in Castle Combe. It was inspiring to hear the King speak so passionately about British wheat and farming in ways that are kinder to our planet.
It’s a privilege to stand alongside so many inspiring businesses who have received this award. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at the bakery, and to all those who have supported us along the way. This is a remarkable achievement. One that inspires us as we look ahead to everything that’s still to come.
