At Hobbs House Bakery, we are passionate about more than just baking. We are equally committed to supporting our local communities and inspiring the next generation of bakers.
We are proud to offer students the opportunity to gain real insights into bakery life. We work closely with local secondary schools, colleges, and other organisations to provide meaningful work experience placements that help young people explore the baking industry as a potential future career path.
We also support people who may have barriers to employment, working with South Gloucestershire Council and local charities to offer placements that provide meaningful insight into the working world and help build confidence and skills.

One recent student, Cherryl, spent five days with us at our bakery, gaining first-hand experience across multiple departments. Reflecting on her placement, she shared:
“I recently completed a five-day work placement at Hobbs House Bakery, where I had the unique opportunity to work independently and experience multiple departments within a large scale bakery operation.
I rotated through a different section each day, starting in confectionery before moving into bread production, followed by despatch, health and safety, and finally new product development. This rotation gave me a comprehensive understanding of how each department contributes to the smooth running of a successful bakery business.
Experiencing confectionery and bread production strengthened my technical skills and reinforced the importance of efficiency, teamwork and precision. Spending time in despatch gave me a new appreciation for logistics and coordination, while later days focused on health and safety procedures and new product development highlighted the importance of compliance, risk management, creativity and product quality.”

Stories like this are exactly why we continue to invest time into work placements and apprenticeships. Baking is best learned through hands-on experience, and we are lucky to be able to open our doors to the next generation of bakers. A small part in helping shape the future of the industry.
