    The Addition of Folic Acid

As you may be aware, there has been an amendment to UK bread and flour regulations this year. All white flours are now required to have folic acid added. The stated aim of this latest measure is to reduce the number of babies born with, or miscarried due to, neural tube defects (NTDs).

Fortification of white flour with folic acid

We have now been notified by our UK millers that they are now fortifying their white flour with folic acid in addition to the existing fortification, in line with Regulation (EU) 1169-2011 consolidated January 2018, and Amendments to the UK Bread and Flour Regulations (1998): Addition of Folic Acid Update.

We will be updating all specifications and labels from Monday 26th January 2026.

    Kind Regards

    Jessica Isaac
