Being a family-run bakery, our community has always been at the heart of what we do, and we believe good bread should be shared within our community as well.
We’re so lucky to be able to work alongside some of our wholesale customers, like The Better Food Company, to help achieve this. For many years, we’ve worked together to ensure surplus bread from our bakery reaches people who need it most, helping to support St Werburghs Foodbank in Bristol and the wider community. Through this partnership, perfectly good handmade bread that might otherwise go to waste is redistributed to families and individuals facing food insecurity across Bristol.
As a business built around ethical and sustainable food, Better Food understands the importance of supporting local communities alongside local partners. Their work with foodbanks and community initiatives across Bristol is driven by a commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable food system.
"We've proudly worked with Hobbs since 1999 and share their commitment to local sourcing, simple ingredients, and making what we consider to be ‘real bread’! We aim to be a force for good within our local communities and being able to facilitate great quality bread reaching people who need it most is a collaboration we are honoured to be a part of.” – The Better Food Company
While bread may seem a simple thing, we know that a fresh loaf can provide comfort and reassurance during difficult times. For us, it is equally important that the loaves we give are nutritionally rich, offering more than the average supermarket loaf.
Not only are we able to support our community, but we are also able to reduce our food waste. As a B Corp bakery, we work hard to ensure that any surplus food finds a good home wherever possible. Partnerships like this allow us to turn potential waste into something positive for our community.
"Here, at St Werburghs Community Centre, we want to warmly acknowledge the value of this long-standing partnership. The regular supply of surplus bread from the Hobbs House Bakery, facilitated through our local St Werburgh’s Better Food Company store, makes a tangible difference to families experiencing food insecurity. Beyond the immediate practical benefit of providing high-quality, nutritious food, there is something deeply important about the sense of dignity and care that a fresh loaf can bring to someone facing a difficult time.
We are grateful for partners who not only recognise the scale of need in our community but also actively work to respond to it in thoughtful and sustainable ways. Initiatives like this show what can be achieved when local businesses and community organisations come together with a shared purpose: to reduce waste, support sustainability, and ensure good food reaches those who need it most.” – St Werburghs Community Centre
Working together, we can do our small part in making quality food more accessible for those in our community who need it most.
