We’re absolutely delighted to share that our iconic Sherston loaf has won Britain’s Best White Loaf 2026! We’ve always said it makes the world’s best toast (okay, maybe we’re biased)… but it feels pretty amazing to have it officially crowned the best.
At a time when there’s so much conversation in the media around ultra-processed foods (especially bread) it means even more to see a loaf like this recognised. The Sherston is made using just five simple ingredients, with no unnecessary additives. It’s a reminder that real bread doesn’t need to be complicated.

Each Sherston loaf is baked using a small amount of yeast and a long, slow overnight prove. This technique allows the dough to develop naturally, creating its light texture and signature flavour.
This loaf is particularly special to us as it sits at the heart of our logo, representing everything we believe in when it comes to baking. A true Hobbs classic, it’s the loaf that so many customers start their day with.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our incredible team of bakers. Their skill and knowledge are what make each loaf so special. It has been a pleasure to share this recipe and pass it on to the next generation of bakers over the years.
